Henderson man accused of slashing tires in gated community
Henderson, NV (KTNV) -- A 24-year-old Henderson man is accused of committing a rash of tire slashings in his own guard-gated neighborhood early Saturday.
Some residents were left with all four tires slashed on their cars.
Andrew Ayala was arrested on two felony counts of destruction of property and held on $50,000 bail at the Henderson Detention Center.
Police were called to a home on Indian Bend Drive in the Grand Legacy community near Wigwam Parkway, just before 2 p.m., by a resident reporting the tires on his car had been slashed.
Officers found 32 vehicles had tires slashed, with some having three or all four tires destroyed.
One of the victims reported seeing one of his neighbors out around the time of the tire slashings. Another resident had video from a surveillance camera that showed a suspect in a black suit walking up to a car and slashing the tires.
When officers went to Ayala's home, they saw a black suit in his SUV. He first gave a false name and denied doing anything.
He later said he used a 5-inch straight blade knife and threw it in some bushes, but offered no reason or motive.
The case is under investigation and Ayala is likely to face additional charges.
