Cooking fire results in evacuation of apartment building
Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- Firefighters responded to multiple calls of a fire at the Rochelle Pines Apartments near East Flamingo and South Pecos roads at about 12:45 a.m. this morning.
Upon arrival, firefighters discovered at least 75 occupants had already evacuated the building because of heavy smoke.
The problem was soon identified as a cooking fire in one of the apartment. The fire wasn't large enough to trigger the sprinkler system but it produced heavy smoke.
The occupant of the apartment was treated for smoke inhalation at the scene and then transported to Sunrise Hospital & Medical Center. One other person was also assessed for possible medical needs.
Damage to the apartment was contained to the stove but the building will require professional cleaning because of the smoke.
No damage estimate was given.
