Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- A 13-year-old boy reported his divorced parents' apparent murder-suicide at a Henderson home on Tuesday evening, according to police.
Police said the boy called 911 at about 5:30 p.m. to report a shooting at his mother's home on Andada Drive, near South Arroyo Grande Boulevard and Horizon Ridge Parkway.
Investigators believe the 54-year-old man entered his ex-wife's home and an argument ensued. The man shot her, then turned the gun on himself in a car parked outside of the home.
The Clark County Coroner's Office identified the woman as 47-year-old Renee M. Bassett. Friends said the victim was a dentist who ran her own practice on South Eastern Avenue near Serene Avenue.
"She's a great lady," said friend Dave Crete. "She's very friendly. She works very hard. She's incredibly smart, incredibly compassionate."
Crete said the couple was divorced for years but did not know exactly how long. Family and friends, who gathered at Bassett's practice on Wednesday, are still trying to figure out what led to the shooting, Crete said. Police said the pair argued before the shooting.
"I can't imagine what would cause this," Crete said. "I can't imagine what the thought process is to go through this."
Henderson Police spokesman Keith Paul said there is no history of domestic violence calls at the home. Police are still searching for a motive.
The 13-year-old boy and his 11-year-old brother were both unharmed. The children are staying with relatives for the time being. Paul said each parent had custody of one child.
"It's a horribly tragic event," Paul said. "I can't imagine, having two children of my own, what they're going through at this time. And our hearts really do go out to them."
Bassett's ex-husband, the alleged shooter, has not yet been identified. This marks the first murder of the year in Henderson.
