Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- MGM Resorts International has partnered with AEG to build a 20,000 seat indoor arena on the Las Vegas Strip.
The proposed arena would be built on land located just west of the Strip, between New York New York and Monte Carlo, and would extend from Las Vegas Boulevard to Frank Sinatra Drive.
"The appetite for entertainment in Las Vegas is unparalleled to anywhere in the world," said Gordon Absher with MGM Resorts. "We have 160,000 guest rooms to fill every night and those folks come to Las Vegas looking to have a good time; looking to have an unforgettable entertainment experience. This arena would be built to provide those types of unforgettable experiences."
MGM says the arena would be a perfect venue to host boxing, other sporting events, concerts and special events.
We're told the project would also include new retail shops and restaurants.
Right now they're in the planning and design phase. MGM says once construction starts, the facility could generate 2,000-2,500 jobs.
MGM, AEG, and third parties will fund the project.
Still no word on an exact timetable.
