16-year-old girl struck by car on Buffalo near Gowan
Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- A 16-year-old girl was struck by a vehicle on Buffalo near Gowan Friday afternoon.
Police said the collision happened just before 3 p.m. on the 3500 block of North Buffalo.
The female pedestrian was not in a crosswalk, authorities said.
"Usually people in this area wait at the intersection like they should, but I guess she wasn't thinking," said Sky Powell.
The teen was taken to a nearby hospital in critical condition.
"I don't know what goes through the mind of somebody thinking they can beat a car across the street," said Sgt. Richard Strader with Metro Police.
Police said the teen had just left the Excel neighborhood and was on her way across Buffalo at a diagonal, and vehicles were coming from both directions.
The driver who hit the girl did stop and cooperated with police. They have ruled she was not impaired at the time of the crash.
Some lanes of traffic were shut down in the area as police investigated the circumstances surrounding the crash.
