Friends remember woman killed on sidewalk by accused drunk driver
Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- Friends are remembering 52-year-old Brenda Smiley, the woman killed on a local sidewalk by an alleged drunk driver on Sunday.
Police said a pickup truck made a sudden right turn, driving up onto a sidewalk and hitting Smiley and a second person.
Smiley was later pronounced dead at a nearby hospital.
"It's beginning to be an epidemic," said Brenda's friend, Kenneth Kidd. "I am so tired of people being dragged down, smashed over...you might as well say it's roadkill."
Kenneth and another one of Brenda's friends, who did not want to be identified, set up a makeshift memorial on the corner for her.
"Brenda was the type of person that would help anyone," Kenneth said. "Brenda was a true sent-down angel to be honest with you."
The driver involved in the crash was arrested. 33-year-old Jason Manuma faces charges for hit-and-run and driving under the influence.
