Pedestrian killed on Blue Diamond Road near Decatur
Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- A pedestrian was killed while crossing Blue Diamond Road east of South Decatur Boulevard on Monday morning.
A Nevada Highway Patrol spokesperson said the man was attempting to cross the road at about 8:45 a.m. when he was struck by a minivan.
"A couple of vehicles were able to swerve to avoid hitting him, but unfortunately one of them was left with very little room to brake and they did make contact with the gentleman," said Sergeant Kevin Honea. "He was pronounced dead at the scene by medical personnel."
There is no crosswalk in the area and it appeared the pedestrian was at fault.
Authorities shut down the westbound lanes of Blue Diamond Road for several hours to investigate the collision.
The identity of the pedestrian has not been released.
