Family of 5 escape house fire near McCarran airport
Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- Firefighters responded to a house fire in the 900 block of Count Wutzke Avenue, near East Hacienda Avenue and South Maryland Parkway.
The neighborhood is located not too far from McCarran International Airport.
Multiple calls were received at around 7:39 a.m. this morning. When firefighters arrived on scene, they discovered that the west end of the house and attic of a single-story home was on fire.
They were able to bring the fire under control fairly quickly and prevented it from spreading to neighboring properties.
A family of five was able to escape without injury but their pet bird died in the fire. There were no injuries to firefighters.
A total of 13 units from the Clark County Fire Department responded. The cause of the fire was determined to be accidental, caused by an unattended candle.
Damage is estimated at $75,000.
