Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- A ribbon cutting was held Wednesday to welcome staff and students to the new John F. Miller School. The campus serves a population of students with disabilities and those who rely on specialized medical attention.

The new John F. Miller School was built with wider doorways to accommodate students in wheelchairs, each classroom is equipped to provide adequate power to support computers and other assistive technology devices.

The school also has a state-of-the-art health office.

The new John F. Miller School is part of the Clark County School District and was built using bond funds approved by voters in 1998.

The new school is located near McLeod and Twain (at 3840 Pecos-McLeod Interconnect).

"I love it," comments Catrina Carter, parent of a student who suffered a traumatic brain injury and has attended Miller since he was three years old. "They made it especiallly for them which means a lot."

The school is one of the only in the nation that is designed specifically with special needs children in mind.

The old facility was in a campus built in the 1960's originally intended to be a regular elementary school campus.
