Another bill calls for annual legislative sessions
CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) -- Democratic lawmakers in the Nevada Legislature are taking another stab of implementing annual legislative sessions -- and raising their salaries.
Senate Joint Resolution 8 introduced Monday by Sen. Tick Segerblom of Las Vegas proposes to amend the state Constitution authorizing 90-day legislative sessions in odd-numbered years and 30-day sessions in even number years.
Similar measures proposed over the decades have failed.
The measure also calls for paying legislators a monthly salary of not less than $2,000 a month for each month of their term.
Under existing law, legislators are paid only for the first 60 days of a 120-day session held every two years, amounting to about $8,777 per session. They are also entitled to per diem at the rate of $152 per day.
