1 dead, 4 hurt in crash on Charleston near Hualapai
Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- One person is dead and four others are hurt after a crash on Charleston east of Hualapai Thursday afternoon.
Police said the crash happened just before 12:30 p.m.
The driver of a Chevy Impala was traveling northbound on Apple Drive towards Charleston when police say he had a medical episode. He lost control of the car, colliding with a Chevy Silverado on Charleston.
The driver of the Chevy Silverado struck a Nissan Versa before striking a tree. The Chevy Impala careened into a second tree.
Police say the driver of the Impala was taken to University Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.
"I don't know if we're going to immediately call this a traffic fatality because there's implications of a possible medical episode," said Metro Sgt. Richard Strader. "We're not sure if he died from his medical episode or if he died from the trauma received from the accident."
The four occupants of the Chevy Silverado were taken to Summerlin Hospital with minor injuries.
The woman driving the rented Nissan was not injured. Police say she was a tourist heading to the airport at the time of the crash.
Both lanes of Charleston were shut between Hualapai and Rampart as police investigated the circumstances surrounding the crash.
The man killed in the crash was later identified as 94-year-old George Nicastro. The Clark County Coroner's Office is still working to determine his cause of death.
