Embattled Nevada lawmaker banned from legislature
Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- Embattled Nevada state lawmaker, Steven Brooks, has been banned from the legislature.
The Democratic Las Vegas Assemblyman was placed on leave Monday, while an independent investigation into his bizarre behavior is complete.
Brooks was arrested early Sunday at his home in North Las Vegas, after his wife called 911. He was charged with domestic battery and obstructing an officer.
According to his arrest report, responding officers encountered Brooks in his driveway, where he allegedly threw punches, wrestled with them, and reached for an officer's gun.
Brooks was also arrested on January 19th, after he reportedly threatened Assembly Speaker Marilyn Kirkpatrick. Days later, he was detained by police after a domestic disturbance at his grandmother's house.
Lawmakers in Caron City say the decision to ban Brooks from the legislature was made to eliminate a possible safety risk, and to prevent a distraction from the work at hand.
