News of Pope's resignation surprises local Catholics
Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- News of the Pope's resignation shocked many local Catholics.
According to the Diocese of Las Vegas, there are about 455,000 Catholics in the Valley.
"I'm sure that this was a difficult decision for him," comments Bishop Joseph Pepe.
"He needs our prayers at this time; also for the Cardinals getting together to elect a new Pope," said Bishop Pepe.
Local parishoners like Edward Drost say they were surprised by the announcement.
"I feel a little bit sad today," said Drost. "I've read a quite a bit of his books over the years and he's a great theologan. I think he steered the church quite well through trials and tribulations over the past years and he's done a marvelous job."
