Pahrump man arrested for attempted murder of daughter's boyfriend

Pahrump, NV (KTNV) -- Randall Phelps, age 68, has been arrested for the attempted murder of his daughter's boyfriend.

The Nye County Sheriff's Department received a call about a possible shooting at about 5 p.m. Wednesday on South Camelot Road in Pahrump.

Upon arrival, sheriff's deputies discovered Benjamin Appleby lying in the driveway bleeding and non-responsive.

Investigation revealed that Appleby had been in a physical fight with his girlfriend, who is Phelps' daughter.

Phelps confronted Appleby and allegedly shot Appleby two times.

It is not believed that Phelps shot Appleby in self-defense or in the defense of another person.

Phelps was arrested and booked into the NCSO Detention on attempted murder and battery with deadly weapon with substantial bodily harm.

Appleby is currently in critical condition at University Medical Center.
