Sparks woman reunited with dog missing 8 months
SPARKS, Nev. (AP) -- A Sparks woman has been reunited with her dog after he'd been missing for eight months and she says the credit goes to a microchip.
Juanita Avila says her 3-year-old Chihuahua, Solo, disappeared from her home last May.
On Friday she got a call from Washoe County Regional Animal Services telling her he'd been found near downtown Reno. Avila says her brother persuaded her to get Solo micro-chipped after he ran away in 2011 on the Fourth of July.
She's helping local officials spread the word about a campaign aimed at micro-chipping a minimum of 5,000 pets by January 2014.
Service officials say 400 pets were micro-chipped in the first week of the campaign. A free clinic is planned noon to 4 p.m. Tuesday at the Scolari's in Sun Valley.
