Las Vegas' Smith Center announces Broadway lineup
LAS VEGAS (AP) -- "Les Miserables," "Evita," and "The Book of Mormon" are making their way to Las Vegas as part of the Smith Center for the Performing Arts' 2013-14 Broadway season.
The 10 plays announced Monday mark the first full season for the $470 million center, which opened downtown in March 2012.
Smith Center President Myron Martin says pent-up demand for fine arts drove a successful debut year that had the center selling about twice as many subscriptions as expected.
The season opens with "Les Miserables" in August, then continues with "The Wizard of Oz," "War Horse," "Sister Act," "Evita," "Mamma Mia," "Flashdance," "The Gershwins' Porgy and Bess," and "Once."
Most of the shows run for one weekend, while the series will wrap up with a monthlong run of The Book of Mormon.
