Man dead after resident fires gun during home invasion
Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- One man is dead after a resident fired at armed intruders at a home near Sahara and Jones on Monday morning.
Officers were called to the 2300 block of Westwind Road at about 7:45 a.m. by a man saying intruders were trying to break in.
The resident, a 72-year-old man, went to his room and grabbed a handgun. As the intruders entered, he fired at least one round, prompting them to flee.
Police arrested one of the apparent intruders as he tried to escape in a car. Another suspect was seen running off, but officers were not able to catch up with him.
A third intruder was found dead in the backyard from an apparent gunshot wound. A gun was also found in the backyard.
Police aren't sure whether the intruder was killed by the homeowner, or some other exchange of gunfire.
Detectives are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.
