Local police conduct DUI checkpoint on Super Bowl Sunday
Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- Super Bowl Sunday is one of the deadliest days on the road and that is why law enforcement were out on Las Vegas roads yesterday looking for drivers who may have had to much to drink.
A DUI checkpoint was set up at the intersection of Boulder Highway and Mayorga, an area that police say is often the site of accidents involving drunk drivers.
Police officers from various law enforcement agencies in the valley participated in the checkpoint.
According to Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, more than 1,600 cars passed through the checkpoint. Police made 26 arrests for DUI and other offenses, which was more than they expected.
There were a couple of incidents where drivers tried to flee and officers found small balloons of cocaine in another driver's mouth.
So far, there have been no reported fatalities from drunk driving on Super Bowl Sunday.
