Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- Residents in one part of the Valley got a chance to visit their local fire house Saturday.

It's all part of the Clark County Fire Department's "Open House Program."

They invite members of the community to tour the local fire house to see what goes into being a firefighter.

Families toured the station, climbed into fire trucks to learn about all the controls and equipment, and even got a chance to get up close to a real helicopter.

The fire department said the programs like these are essential to keep their relationship with the community strong.

They host open houses with community partners, every other month on Saturdays, at different fire stations in the county.

The next open house will be April 6 at Fire Station 20, near Nellis and Lake Mead.
