Armed bank robbery suspect shot by Las Vegas police officer
Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- An officer-involved shooting took place Saturday afternoon near Buffalo Drive and Sahara Avenue.
Just before 1 p.m., a bank robbery was reported at the U.S. Bank located on South Rainbow Boulevard.
The suspect, who reportedly entered the bank with two handguns, fled the area in a vehicle.
A short time later, Las Vegas police located the suspect's vehicle in a business parking lot in the 7800 block of West Sahara.
When officers attempted to take the suspect into custody, he fled in the vehicle, striking several other vehicles, including a Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department patrol car.
Officers pursued the suspect, who got out of the vehicle and fled on foot into a nearby neighborhood.
As the suspect attempted to elude police, he broke into an occupied residence, firing at least one shot before fleeing. No one was injured in the gunfire.
The suspect then entered another home, which was occupied by a man, his wife and two juveniles. The homeowner grabbed a handgun and fired at least one round at the suspect. Police said it's unclear if the suspect was injured in this encounter.
As the suspect fled again into the backyard, he encountered LVMPD officers.
They said he pointed his weapon at one of the officers, who fired multiple rounds from a handgun, striking the suspect.
The suspect, a white male approximately 40-years-old, was transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
The officer was not injured.
The identity of the officer involved, who has been placed on routine paid administrative leave, will be released after 48 hours.
