Troubled Nev. lawmaker vowing to go to Legislature
LAS VEGAS (AP) -- A Nevada lawmaker released following a mental evaluation and allegations that he threatened a state Democratic Assembly leader says he'll serve his elected office when the state Legislature convenes on Monday.
Steven Brooks spoke non-stop for about three minutes when reached Friday by telephone by The Associated Press. Then he hung up.
The Democratic assemblyman from North Las Vegas declared himself "lucid."
He says he's no longer on medication, and he's well enough to get up and get out of bed and take his rightful seat representing the 17th district.
Brooks says he'll explain everything later with his lawyer.
Attorney Mitchell Posin says he hasn't spoken yet with Brooks.
An associate who hasn't provided his full name answered a follow-up phone call.
He says Brooks isn't making any more statements.
