Pet stores on high alert after string of robberies
Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- Las Vegas police officers are visiting small pet stores in the valley after a string of robberies.
They're warning store owners about the suspects, caught only on surveillance video so far, who have stolen several expensive puppies, birds and reptiles.
But many store owners, like Rebecca Horvath at Pet Kingdom USA, say they are more worried about the welfare of the stolen pets.
Horvath says, "Young puppies, if they don't have food and water all the time, they can get low blood sugar, hypoglycemia. If they're put in a big container with other puppies, they could be sick. Parvo can get rampant, so it's really all about the health of the animals."
The thieves have broken into four small pet stores across the valley over the past four days.
Horvath says video of the suspects is posted on YouTube.
