Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) - Residents in one Valley neighborhood are confused as to why an empty home would go up in flames. They say the history of its residents may hold some answers.

It was around 1:30 a.m. Thursday when neighbors jumped out of bed to the sight of this house on the 5400 block of Rock Creek Lane up in flames.

It took firefighters 40 minutes to put out this fire. Much of the inside of the home was destroyed by fire and smoke.

The outside is now boarded up and fire investigators thinking this all started in the garage. Neighbors say the home had remained empty since the holidays. They wonder if several months of what they call "suspicious behavior" had something to do with the blaze.

"In the last couple of months, we started seeing a lot of -- no one was living there -- but we saw a lot of traffic coming and going. Motorcycles and cars stopping there fifteen or twenty minutes," said one neighbor who asked to remain anonymous.

Investigators have heard from neighbors that someone may have been living in the house and stealing utilities from other homes.

Metro Police confirm they received several calls towards the end of 2012 of disturbance complaints at the home.
