Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- A Department of Family Services employee was fired after a review of the death of a 7-year-old boy.
Roderick "RJ" Arrington died in late November, allegedly at the hands of his abusive parents.
Before that, the DFS hotline received a call regarding RJ. While the report was being investigated, RJ was hospitalized and succumbed to his injuries.
That prompted DFS officials to review hotline policies and whether procedures were properly followed.
They found that their policies are effective, but some employees were not following those properly.
DFS officials said they disciplined staff members who failed to adhere to policies, and fired one employee.
The department says they will continue to review policies and procedures in order to prevent future tragedies.
