Suspicious item found at Nevada National Security Site
Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- A suspicious item was found at the Nevada National Security Site on Tuesday.
The item was determined not to be dangerous, but it prompted a few tense hours at the facility.
According to the National Nuclear Security Administration, the item was found lying on the ground slightly under a bush outside the Device Assembly Facility. It had electrical tape covering both ends.
Following procedure, the person reported the item and NNSS fire and rescue, along with off-site emergency units, responded.
Occupants of the Device Assembly Facility were evacuated and a perimeter was established.
The item was assessed and discovered to be a training prop used during a previous exercise. Investigators believe it was dropped and left there.
The ordeal was over by about 8:30 p.m.
