Elko man with bomb says it was for 'protection'
ELKO, Nev. (AP) -- An Elko man accused of having a pipe bomb in his house allegedly told deputies he was keeping the explosive for protection.
Undersheriff Clair Morris tells the Elko Daily Free Press that deputies responded to reports of a burglary in Kittridge Canyon early Friday morning.
Deputies say they found the front door had been kicked in, and noticed drug paraphernalia and possibly stolen items in plain view.
Officials say the resident returned while they were at the house, and told them there was a bomb inside.
Elko bomb squad members responded to the scene, where authorities found a pipe filled with gunpowder and topped with a fuse.
Thirty-two-year-old Jerimiah D. Walters on suspicion of possession of an explosive and possession of incendiary device components.
