Authorities crack down on sale of counterfeit sports merchandise
Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- Federal and local authorities are cracking down on the sale of counterfeit sports merchandise and apparel.
A recent investigation led officials to downtown Las Vegas, where two people were arrested for operating kiosks that sold unlicensed and illegal sports gear.
Police say Sonia Qudrat and Mustafa Ahmadi sold gear with NFL, MLB and NBA logos.
Authorities confiscated hundreds of items including jerseys, hoodies and gloves. If the items were genuine, police say they'd be worth at about $15,000 total.
Qudrat and Ahmadi now face state charges for selling counterfeit goods.
Federal authorities say eradicating operations like this one is important, because the sale of counterfeit items undermines the economy and can be used to promote other types of crime.
