Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- NV Energy officials say an animal is to blame for the short-circuiting of five major power lines Friday morning, leaving thousands without electricity for a short time.

The outage happened at about 5:50 a.m., impacting the area just west of the Las Vegas Strip between Flamingo and Desert Inn.

About 10,000 customers were affected. Channel 13 Action News was one of the many buildings without power.

The loss of electricity caused a peculiar sight near the Strip, where darkness took the place of areas usually glowing with neon lights.

NV Energy crews were dispatched to a substation near Valley View and Flamingo Road and worked to repair the damage.

Electricity was restored to all customers by about 6:48 a.m.

So far, no word on what kind of animal caused such a dark start to Friday for so many.
