Pahrump man admits to killing neighbor, dumping body
Pahrump, NV (KTNV) -- A Pahrump man was arrested after local law enforcement received a call from a distraught man saying that he had "done a terrible thing."
Peter Jason Helfrich, 36, admitted to Nye County Sheriff's Office deputies Thursday night that he had killed his neighbor on Wednesday.
He also said that he drove the man's body up Wheeler Pass Road and dumped the body in the desert, hoping it would be eaten by coyotes.
Further investigation by detectives determined that Silvia Castillo was also a possible participant in the crime, allegedly helping Helfrich dispose of the body.
The body was located in a ravine in Wheeler Pass by Nye County Search and Rescue. Las Vegas police were called in to assist.
An autopsy will be conducted by the Clark County coroner's office who will determine the cause of death.
Helfrich was booked into NCSO Detention for first-degree murder, conspiracy to commit a crime, destruction of evidence and other charges.
The sheriff's office is still looking for Silvia Castillo.
A motive was not given for the murder.
Anyone with information about this crime or the location of Castillo is asked to call 775-751-7000 or send an email to ncso_detectives@co.nye.nv.us.
