Kingman, AZ (KTNV) -- James Clifton Craft, 70, of Kingman, Ariz., was arrested late Tuesday night for second-degree murder.
According to the Mohave County Sheriff's Office, deputies and detectives responded to reports of a shooting at a triplex in the 3500 block of Dove Lane at about 10:13 p.m.
Craft told the responding officers that he just shot a man outside his front door.
Two men were questioned near the residence and told deputies that the gunshot victim was inside another residence.
Deputies located the victim, later identified as 27-year-old Matthew James Paulson, but he was declared dead by responding medical personnel.
An investigation into the shooting revealed that Paulson was upset with Craft for unknown reasons.
Earlier in the evening, he began yelling and calling Craft names as he stood outside in their joint front yard.
A neighbor intervened and was able to temporarily diffuse the situation.
However, Paulson became upset a short time later and began yelling at Craft again.
The neighbor then heard a popping noise and saw Paulson grab his torso.
The neighbor told deputies that Paulson did not have any weapons and was only yelling at Craft.
Deputies confiscated a .22 caliber semi-automatic handgun and Craft was taken into custody without incident.
The case is still under investigation and autopsy results are pending.
