Nevada lawmaker freed from jail in threat case
LAS VEGAS (AP) -- A Nevada lawmaker is free from jail following his arrest on suspicion of threatening to harm a state Assembly party leader at a home in North Las Vegas.
North Las Vegas police Officer Chrissie Coon said Monday that Democratic Assemblyman Steven Brooks was released from the Las Vegas City jail late Sunday. Coon said a judge had set bail at $100,000.
He has court date Jan. 28.
Brooks was arrested Saturday while driving in North Las Vegas a little under two hours after police were called and witnesses corroborated the reported threat.
Police haven't identified the lawmaker who reported the threat.
But Assembly Democratic Majority Leader William Horne tells The Associated Press that he and Assembly Democratic Speaker Marilyn Kirkpatrick were assigned security protection because of it.
