Judge calls ex-cop a "sexual predator with a badge" during sentencing
Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- A former Las Vegas police officer Is going to jail. The sentence comes down after accusations came out back in 2011 of him pulling women over and getting them to expose themselves.
There were mixed emotions in the courtroom as the accused's family waited to hear the sentence, and victims hoped for justice. Even the judge did not hold back in saying what she thought of the former officer.
"And based on the facts that you are nothing short of a sexual predator with a badge. It's a disgrace to the good men and women of law enforcement," said Judge Abbi Silver.
34-year-old John Norman stood before the judge along with his attorney, former district attorney David Roger. Norman was accused of coercing several women into exposing their breasts during traffic stops in 2011. He was supposedly looking for drugs. He entered a plea deal in exchange for the dropping of other charges.
Two of the victims took to the stand explaining to the judge how the traffic stops changed their lives and views of police officers.
Norman also pleaded for a lighter sentence explaining how hard this has been for his family, and the likely hood of at least one lawsuit his attorney says is already coming from one of the victims. At one point he even turned to those women in the courtroom.
"If I did at any point make anyone feel threatened I truly and humbly am sorry, because that was not was never my intent to use my position to force people to expose themselves. It was never my intention," said Norman.
Norman will spend the next two years in a Clark County Detention Center cell, and afterward will live his life as a registered sex offender.
