Man accused of robbing 9 local bars at gunpoint
Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- Dennis Cooper, Jr. is accused of robbing nine local bars at gunpoint. Las Vegas police say he started the crime spree shortly after serving a 12-year sentence for the same crime.
Detectives believe the robberies happened over the course of about a month in the eastern part of the valley. In each case, investigators say Cooper first sat down and ordered a drink.
"As soon as the drink would be served to him, he would pull out a handgun, point it at the bartenders and demand money," said Metro Sgt. Prokopios Ziros, who led the investigation.
According to police, Cooper, 36, got away with tens of thousands of dollars in those robberies and always used the same getaway car. That's what ultimately got him caught.
"We received information from a witness who was outside during one of the robberies, and obtained a license plate number," says Sgt. Ziros. "Following up on that lead led us to Cooper. It just proves how we really do rely on the public's help to solve crimes."
Cooper is now back in the Clark County Detention Center awaiting trial.
