Improper lane change causes fatal crash on I-15
Clark County, NV (KTNV) -- More details have been released into what caused a fatal crash in the Valley, early Monday morning.
It happened just before 6:30 a.m. on I-15, near Lamb Boulevard.
Nevada Highway Patrol said a Buick LeSabre was traveling north on I-15, while a tractor-trailer (England Trucking Company) was also traveling on I-15, next to the Buick.
Investigation showed the tractor-trailer made an unsafe lane change into the Buick's lane.
The driver of the Buick, 54-year-old Farrilyn Gaston Diaz of Las Vegas, veered into the median, in an attempt to avoid contact and lost control.
The Buick then struck a Freightliner tractor traveling in the opposite direction.
The tractor-trailer continued down I-15 after the crash without stopping.
Diaz was pronounced dead at the scene.
About two hours after the crash, a witness returned to the scene to inform authorities of the tractor-trailer.
The trucking company has since been contacted and has the driver returning for the investigation.
The driver was identified by GPS coordinates and will be in contact with NHP.
