Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- North Las Vegas Mayor Shari Buck held a State of the City address on Tuesday.
It's been a tough year for all Nevadans, with the housing market and the highest unemployment rate in the country.
Despite those setbacks, the Mayor seemed hopeful about the future of North Las Vegas. But staying positive during tough economic times is something we'd expect from any leader in her position.
When asked directly about getting more jobs into the city, the mayor said they do have a number of employers coming in. She said that will create more jobs within the next two years.
"I'm really excited about ViaWest and their operation," said Mayor Buck. "They will be expanding soon. These companies that I mentioned are all ripe for growth. I've had several business leaders come to me within the area today to tell me they are coming in and expanding. We see that light at the end of the tunnel that things are getting better."
One more positive for the city of North Las Vegas -- the Mayor says more than 50 percent of the city's land is available for growing.
