Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- The largest gun show in the world opened Tuesday in Las Vegas.

The National Shooting Sports Foundation's 35th annual SHOT Show -- short for Shooting, Hunting and Outdoor Trade -- draws thousands of gun and gear manufacturers and enthusiasts.

The show, held at the Sands Expo and Convention Center, is taking place during a raging national debate over assault weapons.

The show is not open to the public and, according to the Associated Press, press access was limited after the elementary school shooting in Connecticut.

The NSSF is also based in Newtown.

The president and CEO of NSSF, Steve Sanetti. is scheduled to speak to attendees at the show tonight. A copy of his remarks can already be found on their website.

The NSSF has a membership of more than 7,000 manufacturers, distributors, retailers, shooting ranges, sportsmen's organizations and publishers.

The show is expected to draw more than 60,000 attendees.
