Utah man sentenced for tax fraud in Nevada
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- A Cedar City man has been sentenced to 2 and 1/2 years in prison in Nevada for tax fraud.
The U.S. Attorney's Office in Nevada says 49-year-old Michael Titus submitted fraudulent tax returns for himself and others in Utah and Nevada to try to obtain considerable tax refunds they did not qualify for.
Titus pleaded guilty in September to one count of filing a false claim with the IRS. He was sentenced Monday.
Following his prison term, Titus has been sentenced to three years of supervised release and must pay $300,000 in restitution to IRS.
The U.S. Attorney's Office says Titus was convicted in Missouri and Arkansas for felony burglary and theft. He was also convicted of a misdemeanor in Nevada for securities fraud in 2007.
