UNLV one step closer to mega-events center on campus
Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- UNLV is one step closer to a mega-events center on campus.
On Friday, the board of regents got their first look at a model of the facility.
The University says the facility could create a big boost for the area economy, in terms of construction jobs and visitors.
The project is called 'UNLV Now' and the proposal calls for a 55,000 seat events center.
The University says it could host sporting events, concerts and festivals. Supporters hope the facility could attract up to 15 new events to town, and create upwards of 5,000 construction jobs.
While the events center is not a done deal, the University says plans are moving forward.
"For the first time, the evolution of the project is being demonstrated in both models and the renderings," said Don Snyder. "That's a big step, to understand what the physical plan will be."
A new report released on Friday shows the facility could generate up to $393 million a year for the area economy.
The price tag is expected to be revealed at a meeting next month.
