Traffic fatalities up for the year in Nevada
Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- The Nevada Departments of Public Safety and Transportation is reporting that traffic fatalities in the state of Nevada rose for the year of 2012.
Preliminary numbers show that there 258 fatalities last year, which was an increase of 12 deaths compared to the previous year.
The all-time high was in 2006 when 432 people were killed. In addition, while the number of fatalities rose, serious traffic injuries were down in 2012. Only 725 people suffered serious injuries in 2012 compared to 1,222 in 2011.
The goal of the Nevada Strategic Highway Safety Plan is to cut the yearly traffic fatality average in half by 2030, with the ultimate goal of zero fatalities.
