Fire damages vacant house near Sahara & Arville

Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- Firefighters from Las Vegas and Clark County responded to a fire in a vacant house in the 2500 block of Las Verdes Street, near Sahara Avenue and Arville, on Tuesday night.

Upon arrival, firefighters discovered heavy flames and smoke. Firefighters were able to bring it under control within a few minutes.

Neighbors told firefighters the house had been vacant for more than a year but they had seen people going in and leaving the house frequently.

Upon entry, it was discovered the house was heavily damaged inside and full of trash and debris from squatters staying in the house.

Damage is estimated at $100,000. There were no reported injuries to civilians or firefighters but a cat did die in the fire.
