Las Vegas pilot crash-lands twice, 1 year apart
LAS VEGAS (AP) -- It may be time for one Las Vegas pilot to stop pushing his luck -- at least on the first week of January.
Norman B. Ivans told the Las Vegas Review-Journal he was behind the controls of a small plane when it crash-landed at the North Las Vegas airport and burst into flames last Wednesday.
He was also piloting a similar twin-engine Piper Aerostar that crash-landed at the same airport Jan. 5, 2012, exactly 363 days earlier.
Ivans chalked up last week's crash to a mechanical failure but declined further comment on the issue by saying he's involved in litigation.
Ivans was flying alone and wasn't injured in the 2012 crash, but was downgraded to student pilot privileges.
He and his instructor escaped serious injury in Wednesday's crash.
