Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- Authorities have identified the man shot by police on Sunrise Avenue Sunday.

Police say 28-year-old Joseph Ogonowski of Las Vegas was critically injured when he was shot by an officer.

Authorities were called to investigate a suspicious vehicle in the 2100 block of Sunrise Avenue just after 4 a.m.

When they arrived, they recognized one of the occupants as a suspect in a previous robbery and shooting.

The officers attempted to get the man and the woman out of the car, but they drove off in the vehicle. Officers pursued them for a short time until they stopped in the 600 block of North 12th Street. Both the man and the woman got out of the car and ran off.

As police were chasing them down, the man fired several rounds from a handgun at officers. One officer returned fire, striking Ogonowski.

Ogonowski was taken to a nearby hospital where he remains in critical condition. He faces charges including attempted murder of a police officer, assault with a deadly weapon and previous warrants.

The woman with Ogonowski at the time, 24-year-old Christina Harrington, was also arrested. Detectives discovered she was connected to the previous robbery and shooting as well. Harrington faces charges for robbery with a deadly weapon, conspiracy to commit robbery and grand larceny auto.

Detectives continue to investigate the crime.
