Police push for pedestrian safety as kids head back to school
Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- Winter break is over for the Clark County School District. Students head back to school Monday morning, and that means even more reason to slow down on local roads.
North Las Vegas Police are making sure drivers are slowing down and watching out for pedestrians, as they step up their patrols on the first day back to school.
They'll be ticketing drivers who don't yield to pedestrians in crosswalks. There will be an increased amount in the morning, especially near schools.
Students also need to pay attention to drivers, making sure they're clear before stepping into that crosswalk.
Action News was stationed near Lee Antonello Elementary School Monday morning, but officers will be moving enforcement events around the city of North Las Vegas, focusing on areas drivers tend to be a danger to pedestrians.
