Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- The American Red Cross is kicking off a special fund raising campaign called "Fire Hurts.. Red Cross Helps." They're trying to raise $300,000 to help fire victims in the Valley.

Most people know the American Red Cross helps out when there are natural disasters like Super Storm Sandy. But they also help out here at home.

"Here in Southern Nevada, I would imagine we have a working fire every day," says Scott Gorgon, of the Professional Fire Fighters of Nevada.  "It seems like every other day or so, we have families burned out of their homes and lose everything."

The Red Cross helps those families with food and temporary shelter, and that costs money. Last year, they gave out more than $250,000 to local fire victims. With this year's "Fire Hurts" campaign, they're hoping to raise more than that. Over $100,000 has already been donated by local individuals and companies.
