Searchers find body of missing California girl in Tahoe
STATELINE, Nev. (AP) -- Authorities say searchers have found the body of a missing Northern California woman who last was seen on New Year's Eve at a South Lake Tahoe casino.
Douglas County undersheriff Paul Howell said a utility worker found 19-year-old Alyssa Byrne of Petaluma early Friday in a snow bank by a trail near the area around the Nevada-California state line where she disappeared.
Howell says the body had no visible signs of trauma and investigators do not suspect foul play in Byrne's death. She was last seen around midnight on New Year's Eve at the Horizon Casino Resort in Stateline, Nev.
Byrne was in the area with friends attending a music festival being held at a nearby community college. Howell says Byrne may have tried to walk from a concert she had attended back to where she was staying rather than wait for a shuttle bus.
