Echo Bay Marina at Lake Mead closing Feb. 1
Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- The National Park Service has announced that Lake Mead National Recreation Area's Echo Bay Marina will close and water-based commercial services will be discontinued on Feb. 1.
For the past three years, Echo Bay services have been provided by Forever Resorts. That contract expires on Jan. 31.
No bids were received for a new 10-year contract.
Services included a 365-slip marina, fuel dock, small boat rental, motel, restaurant, retail, land-based fuel, dry boat storage, a long-term trailer village and RV park and more.
The motel and restaurant actually closed in 2010 because of economic conditions.
Park Superintendent Bill Dickinson says that revenues have dropped at Echo Bay Marina over the past few years because of the recession and declining water levels.
A transition team has been put together to address the future of the area. In addition to visitor services, about 100 boat owners currently lease space at the marina.
