Troopers and suspect in Monday's shooting identified
Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- The Nevada Highway Patrol has identified the two troopers involved in a shooting that took place near U.S. 95 and Jones Boulevard on Dec. 31.
Trooper Micah May has been with NHP since 2008 and Sgt. Raymond Pedraza has been a trooper since June 2001.
The man who was shot has been identified as 33-year-old David Bird Jr., who is currently in custody at the Clark County Detention Center.
The incident began at about 3:50 a.m. Monday when Bird failed to stop for a traffic violation.
He then led troopers on a 10-mile chase that exceeded 100 mph at times.
The car finally stopped on U.S. 95 near Jones after his tires blew because of spike strips. Bird attempted to flee on foot while brandishing a gun.
Bird was then shot by the troopers. He was transported to University Medical Center for treatment.
