Longtime Reno McQueen football coach Dalton dies
RENO, Nev. (AP) -- Longtime Reno McQueen High School football coach Ken Dalton has died.
Dalton was diagnosed with skin cancer in 2009, a year after he retired from 27 years of coaching at McQueen.
Former assistant Ken Cass confirmed Dalton died on Thursday. His age was not immediately available.
Dalton coached at North Tahoe before he became McQueen's first coach when the school opened in 1982. He led the Lancers to four state championships and 20 postseason appearances. His last team in 2008 won the 4A title with a 14-0 record.
Reno High coach Dan Avansino, who played for Dalton at McQueen, told the Reno Gazette-Journal he had an "undying loyalty to his coaches, players and family."
A public memorial service is planned at the McQueen gym, Sunday, Jan. 13 at 1 p.m.
