Teen killed in New Year's day crash is identified
Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- The teenager who died after being struck by a car on New Year's Day has been identified as 18-year-old Jesse Hill.
On Thursday, friends gathered at a memorial on Gliding Eagle Road in North Las Vegas.
Hill and a 16-year-old girl were on the sidewalk when a car veered off the road and hit them. The girl is still in the hospital in critical condition.
Hill died on Wednesday.
He was in town on winter break from college to spend time with his family and former classmates from the Northwest Career and Technical Academy.
Chelsey Madonna was among the mourners at the memorial. She said, "We're teenagers too, just like the drivers. You know, if you're gonna drink; if you're gonna do other stuff; do it at home. Don't leave your house. The fact that they made the choice to get in a car and go joyriding, especially in a neighborhood? Just, I have no remorse for them."
19-year-old Cristian Ivan Diaz, the driver of the car, faces charges that include failure to maintain a travel lane.
His 18-year old-passenger, Ricardo Daniel Velasquez faces drug-related charges that include destruction of evidence.
