Las Vegas, NV (KTNV) -- One of the teenagers struck down on a sidewalk on New Year's Day has died.

A memorial with two candles marks the spot on Gliding Eagle Road in North Las Vegas where an 18-year-old boy and a 16-year old girl were hit by a car.

North Las Vegas Police say the car was driven by 19-year-old Cristian Ivan Diaz.

Neighbors who saw the crash describe an horrific scene. They say the two teens were hit so hard their shoes were knocked off and Diaz reacted in shock after crossing out of his lane and hitting the two teens on the other side of the road.

One neighbor said, "All four wheels were in the air and we knew he was going way too fast to be able to stop in time."

Diaz faces charges of failure to maintain a travel lane and failure to get a Nevada driver's license within thirty days. A passenger in the car, 18-year-old Ricardo Daniel Valazquez faces charges of possessing marijuana and destruction of evidence.
